FAQ

Do I need to understand what type of assurance I want?

Nope. Our experts will discuss the various options with you. If you're unsure, we will present you with options, allowing you to decide what suits your budget and goals.

What exactly is a penetration test? Is it the same as "ethical hacking"?

Yes. You can think of it as "ethical hacking." Aurguard essentially testing using techniques that a real-world cyberattack might use. But we do it in a safe and controlled manner. The goal is to find security weaknesses that a real attacker could exploit before they do. It's like hiring a certified security inspector to check for unlocked doors and windows in your digital business.

Aren't hackers only interested in big companies?

NO! Attackers often target small businesses because they see them as easier targets with less sophisticated defences. You might be targeted for your customer data, financial information, or even just as a stepping stone to attack one of your larger clients. Many small businesses get a test to meet client requirements, achieve a compliance certification, or simply to protect their hard-earned reputation.

Will I get help with whatever you find?

Absolutely. Aurguard will provide you with a detailed report and clear recommendations that you or your IT team can put into practice. We'll ensure that your IT team understand what's required to secure your business.

How often do I need to test my system(s)?

It's up to you. Some of our clients are covered by strict regulations and require specific type of assurance on a regular basis. Others want peace of mind on a periodic basis.

Will a penetration test break our systems or cause downtime?

Not at all. Professional testing is a carefully planned and controlled engagement. Think of us as security engineers, not demolition experts. We will work closely with you to set clear rules and can even perform the most sensitive testing outside of your peak business hours. Our goal is to identify vulnerabilities without disrupting your operations.

I have a firewall. Isn't that enough?

No. A firewall is like having a strong lock on your front door, which is great! But what about the unlocked window on the second floor, or the old service tunnel no one uses anymore? Businesses grow and change, and it's easy to lose track of every system connected to the internet. Digital Borders Testing helps us find "forgotten" entry points. It is a proactive step to ensure you have a complete and accurate picture of your security, rather than just protecting the front door.

How do I get support if I need help?

You're covered. You'll be appointed a Lead from Aurguard. They will be with you throughout the entire engagement.

Do I need to provide you with anything for you to run test?

Yes. It will depend on the type of assurance/testing you want. For a test of your digital borders, we only need your permission - we do the rest. For a more detailed adversary simulation, we need your goals, your requirements, and (mot importantly) your permission.

I need long term help. Do you have someone that can join my team?

Yes. We are able to augment your team for longer term engagements. Whether it's a couple of months or a whole year, we have experienced staff that can help.

What do I get?

Confidence. You receive a comprehensive report in a medium you can use (e.g. PDF, Slack. It will be clear and easy to understand. It will include a summary and clear actionable recommendations to help guide you to improving your security and resilience to cyberattack. We will also work with your IT team to ensure they understand what's needed, and then help them address the most critical vulnerabilities first.
